National Grid reached out to me earlier this afternoon to inform me we will have high winds for the next 36 hours. We should expect heavier than normal winds starting early Monday morning with gusts up to 60-70 mph in the late afternoon with conditions tapering off from early evening through Tuesday morning. They also want to assure residents that they have a full restoration crew available in spite of the additional challenges that face us all regarding COVID-19. National Grid is considered an essential service provider and will dispatch crews to address all power outages regardless of their severity. They are reminding us to consider all downed wires as LIVE wires and NOT to reach out and touch any wires in our path, they are encouraging us to call National Grid at 1-800-Niagara or 911. They have also reached out to remind us that for anyone using portable generators to operate them only outside and in well-ventilated areas. Remember generators should NEVER be put inside living spaces or garages. We at the Town of Clay will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available. Please be safe.
