The Town held a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 8th to celebrate the completion of the energy efficient upgrades to the Town Highway Garage. A representative from the Department of Energy was on hand, as well as representatives from Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle’s office, Senator John DeFranciso’s office and Assemblyman Don Miller. The lighting retrofits alone will save electricity and remove pollutants from the air and will have the same effect on the environment as planting 4 acres of trees! More information on both energy and dollar savings will be posted as it becomes available.
Assemblyman Miller is checking to see if there is any funding available that would cover installation of new overhead doors on the Highway Garage. He will keep us posted on his findings.
The Governor’s Office is working to assist us with our NYPA application for the 100MW Solar Initiative. To date, no further information has been made available regarding the project, including a date that it will be awarded. We are still exploring other funding opportunities for energy saving upgrades, in our effort to go green.
We have joined the Zero-to-Landfill Program with Toshiba for recycling our used toners, print drums, etc. Waste is 100% recycled and used in the making of plastic lumber for Habitat for Humanity.
The new vending machines in the employee break room have had the lights disconnected. This small step can save as much as $185.00 monthly on Town energy bills.
