INTRODUCTION TO ART-2009

A youth Introduction to Art course. This course for youth will focus on different drawing techniques and strategies for students interested in pursuing the arts.  Students will learn and practice their drawing skills and learn about different artist and their styles of drawing, painting, sculpture, illustration and cartooning.  In addition, they will experiment with different art mediums like pencil, charcoal, watercolor, tempera paints, wood, paper Mache, etc. Students previously enrolled, will continue to develop their skills with new techniques, mediums and art styles.

BOWLING KID'S PROGRAM-2009 

A fun supervised open bowling program to promote healthy exercise, fun and sharpen your bowling skills in a State -of-the-Art Automatic Scoring 40-lane bowling alley.  Bumpers available on all lanes.

CONCERTS IN THE PARK-2009

Great Music, Great Times

The Town of Clay Recreation Department would like to invite you to its annual summer concert series held at Clay Central Park off Wetzel Road on Tuesdays at the Ernest N. Casale Amphitheatre. 
Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and coolers to enjoy great music and great times!  The popular summer Game Mobile with our trained staff will be coming to the Park during the Concerts to provide supervised fun activities for children of all ages.  This season during the concert food and refreshments will be available for purchase by area Restaurants.  There are also some picnic tables and grills available. The Town of Clay Town Board, recently adopted a resolution approving the 'Young Lungs at Play' Tobacco-Free Parks Policy.  Under this new policy, the Town of Clay will not allow the use of any tobacco products on parklands or open spaces.  This policy should provide for a safer environment for your families to enjoy the parks.  The 2009 schedule is as follows with RAIN DATE on Wednesdays:

CREW-SYRACUSE CHARGERS ROWING-2009

Hey kids, moms and dads-get energized this summer and LEARN TO ROW! Liverpool is fortunate to have the facilities and coaching to introduce you, and your kids, to this awesome sport. Many of our graduates have gone on to row in college and beyond.

Youth Learn to Row Program:
For kids  10 years old and up with no previous rowing experience.  Learn the basics and have some fun races.  Three-week program cost $150.00.  Monday through Friday from 9:00-10:30 AM. Sign up Night: Monday, June 9th from 6:00-7:30 PM.

ROYAL FAIRYTALE Spring THEATRE

Royal Fairy Tale Theatre of New York (RFTNY) spring session is designed  for the budding actor/actress, introducing them to the world of performing arts through drama, music, creative movement & active visual design all presented in unique & diverse program meant to bring the stage alive with every child having a speaking part!  Come celebrate our 17th Anniversary of children's theatre!

ROYAL FAIRYTALE THEATRE Summer DRAMA PROGRAM - 2009

ROYAL FAIRYTALE THEATRE DRAMA PROGRAM
This Shakespeare for Children' performing arts program features educational theatre workshops to end in a full-length costumed stage production.  The program is held at Clay Central Park on Wetzel Road on our outdoor castle stage.  The play will be an adaptations of a Shakespearean comedy - "The Tempest".  Speaking roles for entire cast!  Class size limited. Plays are open to the public with lawn chair seating (bring your own chair).

HISTORY CAMP - 2009

Learn from the Clay Historical Association members in a fun camp taht will give your child experiences from the past.  Prior camp included making soap, old fashion butter and ice cream, planting crops of the time, playing old time games etc.  Theme this year TBA.

SAFETY VILLAGE - 2009

A safety education/recreation program for children entering kindergarten utilizing several different recreation components to impart safety lessons concerning fires, buses, swimming pools, poisoning, stranger situations, pedestrian and bicycle safety.

Location: Safety Village, held at Bear Road Elementary  School. 
Dates: July 6th-July 17th, 2009-Monday thru Friday, a two-week program, features two separate classes: 9:00 AM-10:30 AM or 11:00 AM-12:30 PM.

SCIENCE CAMP FOR KIDS-2009

This camp will be a week long hands-on science program for children.  The Theme for this year will be 'Going Green-Renewable Energy"  culminating in an optional field trip on Friday.

Ages: Waterbabies (ages 9 mo. to 3), Level 1-4 (must be 4 years and older and 38: tall without shoes without parent); Level 5 & 5 may be offered w/interest.
Instructors: American Red Cross WSI Certified Instructors, Certified Lifeguard and Professional Rescuers.
Ratio: 1 Instructor per 6 children - Level 1 to 6 only.  Note: make-up classes may change ratio rule.

Lessons will cover stroke production, positioning, strategy and more.

Fee: $60.00 per player; (minimum 6, maximum 10 per class)

Intensive 30-minute fitness & drilling session followed by an hour match play!

Each program will be held at Liverpool High School.  All players are encouraged to bring recreational clothing and their own tennis racket.  If you need a racket or might want to borrow or try out a racket, contact Tennis Director, Steve Cary at 479-5808.

ONE-PLUS-ONE JUNIOR TENNIS LEAGUE:
Groups are typically divided by age (level 1 ages 9-13 and level 2 ages 13-18).  These lessons combine 45-minute of instruction with at least 45-minutes of match or modified play, provide nine 90 minute classes in a structured, professionally supervised environment.  Typically, the skill that is taught for the day is integrated into follow-up drills and games.  The two three-week lesson leagues are:

Session I: July 6th-July 24th, 2009
Session II: August 3rd-August 21st, 2009
FEE: $65.00 per session
Level I Juniors-ages 13 and under-Mon./Wed./Fri.-2:00-3:30 PM.

QUICK START TENNIS (new):
This new program is intended for junior tennis players 10 and under and 8 and under.  Using modified nets, courts, rackets and T-shirts, young players enjoy a scaled down tennis environment where players can participate from the first day.  All the tennis equipment is provided for players and with quick start tennis player learn more through experience and fun.  The two three-week lesson leagues are:

Session I: July 6th-July 17th and July 27th-July 31st (no classes July 20th-July 24th)
Session II: August 3rd-August 21st, 2009
FEE: $50.00 per session
Youth (ages 10 & under)-Tues.-1:00-2:00 PM.

ONE-WEEK TENNIS CLINIC:
These clinics are for all age junior players.  By using skill builders, lead up drills and fun games students learn and play tennis throughout the week.  The clinic runs Monday through Friday following the schedule below.  Groups require a minimum of 6 players.

For the sixth year running the CNY Junior Tennis Circuit again provides tennis players the chance to compete against other players throughout the summer.  Each tournament is held from 9:00 AM until it's completion on the same day.  In the event of rain, the tournament will resume or be rescheduled at 12:00 noon on Sunday.  The following sites and events have been scheduled for this summer:

NOTE: Other sites may be added depending upon sign-up.  Each division will require a minimum of 6 single entries and 4 double teams.  It is important that your skill level is correctly identified and that your commitment to participate is clear by the Friday before the event.  All events begin by 9:00 AM and players are to arrive to the tournament site by 8:45 AM.  Results will be recorded and reported to the Post Standard Newspaper.  Be sure to completely fill out all information on the back of the registration form and submit the payment by Friday the day before the event.  Call 479-5808 to confirm your participation by Friday.

FEE:  $20.00 players (guaranteed 2 rounds of play)
FEE:  $100.00 player (covers all events if prepaid)

Location:  Great Northern Mall around 9:30 PM.

HERSHEY TRACK AND FIELD EVENT-2009

In a partnership the Town of Cicero, Town of Clay and Village of North Syracuse, will host a Hershey Track & Field Meet.  The Event will be held Monday, June 1st, at the North Syracuse Junior High School starting at 4:00 PM.  The meet is open to all children ages 9 to 14 residing in the Towns of Cicero and Clay and Village of North Syracuse.  Top finishers in each event may be eligible to advance to the State Meet and then to the National Games in Pennsylvania.  To find out more about this exciting on day meet, check out the website www.hershystrackandfield.com.  Hurry!  Registration is going on now at the Town of Cicero Youth Bureau, Parks & Recreation Office at 699-5233..
