Leaves are picked up at
different times throughout the year. They are picked up during
our semi-annual pick-up in May and October. The dates follow the
same as the semi-annual pick up dates for yard debris and metal.
The leaves must be piled separate from all other materials.
Please note to all residents (excluding districts 1 & 6) that
your bagged leaves will be picked up by the bi-weekly
contractor.
When our fall pick-up is
completed, the last Friday in October, we will then begin to
pick up leaves ONLY. We understand that in
October, the leaves have not begun to fall yet, so please be
patient and we will be throughout the town to pick up the leaves
through the months of November and December, weather permitting.
There is less chance of
your leaves being left at the curbside if you are able to bag
them. We realize that it is an added expense to the homeowners
to purchase the lawn bags required for bagging the leaves, and
that not all residents can handle that added expense. Therefore,
the highway department would like to inform the resident’s
that they have burlap bags for the convenience of bagging
leaves. You are able to request and pick them up at the highway
department at no cost to the resident. Unfortunately,
living in NY, we never know what to expect for our weather
conditions. If the leaves are too wet from the snow, the leaf
vacuum can not retrieve them. Or if the snow piles high on top
of them, they are not visible for the crews to see them. We
don’t ever intentionally drive by any resident’s leaves, but
because of these factors; sometimes your leaves may be missed.
If the snow should fall
before your leaves are picked up, we will continue the leaf
pick-up as soon as possible. If the leaves are visible after a
thaw, and the crews are able to get at them, they will be picked
up.
Please have your leaves
out in time for our pick up so that the highway crews can
continue with their scheduled work as planned.
Thank you for your
anticipated cooperation.
